St. Brigid’s Cross – (Cros Bríde)
The St. Brigid’s cross was made from woven rushes, and is thought to keep evil, fire and hunger from the the homes in which it was displayed.
Traditionally they were hung over doorways and windows of ones home.
Brigid was born in Dundalk in 450 AD and is one of the patron saints of Ireland.
She was the founder of the first monastery in Co. Kildare and her feast day is the 1st of February.
